Twist fold

What it is

Pleats around a central shape rotate together so the centre turns as it flattens. The base unit of tessellations.

History

Developed by Japanese folder Shuzo Fujimoto in the 1960s and 70s, and later popularised by folders such as Chris Palmer and Eric Gjerde.
